GOLF TIPS
Part V: Managing Yourself And Your Game
Lesson #95: Gauging the Greens
On a well-balanced golf course you'll encounter greens of different sizes. Usually, the holes calling for short approach shots will have small greens. On these holes you had better select the right club and then hit the right club right. On the longer holes, however, you might encounter a green that is thirty or forty paces deep, allowing for different clubs, depending upon the pin position.
Take note of the big greens on your course, and jot down the clubs you usually play into those holes. You'll find that some will be two-club greens and others will be three-clubbers, and in these cases you should make note of the clubs for pin positions in the front, middle, and back of the green. This knowledge will help you make an accurate club selection and a confident swing.
