Norman Commits To U.S. Senior Open At The Broadmoor

A field loaded with some of golf's more recognizable names added a player who needs only a nickname - the Shark.

Norman finished fourth at the 2005 U.S. Senior Open at NCR Country Club in Ohio.

Greg Norman, a two-time British Open champion and former No. 1 player in the world, committed Saturday to play in next month's U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor. Norman joins a field that likely will include Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, Ben Crenshaw and Bernhard Langer.

Norman is one of the sport's most celebrated players. During the 1990s, Norman held the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for 331 consecutive weeks.

He is a three-time team member on the International team in the President's Cup (1998, 2000 and 2002) and will serve as captain for the 2009 President's Cup team.

Colorado golf fans last saw Norman compete in the The International. He won the PGA Tour event in 1989 and finished in the top eight five other times.

It will be the sixth United States Golf Association event staged at The Broadmoor. Annika Sorenstam won the 1995 U.S. Women's Open there, and Jack Nicklaus won the 1959 U.S. Amateur at the course.

The Broadmoor also is scheduled to host the 2011 U.S. Women's Open.
