Angel Cabrera

When Argentina's Angel Cabrera arrives at Harding Park for this year's Presidents Cup matches, he will wear the mantle of a two-time major championship winner -- the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters. That alone should make him a player to be reckoned with as the team Captains plot their strategies, since Cabrera fears no one and has the game to back it up. Cabrera's first full season on the PGA TOUR came in 2002, when he made 12 cuts in 13 starts and posted four top-10 finishes. He has divided his time between the TOUR and international events, where he has won 17 times. He has proven to be a solid player in international team events, going 3-3-3 in three Presidents Cup appearances and representing Argentina in nine World Cups. He also capped his 2007 season by winning the Grand Slam of Golf, which pits the winners of the four major championships against one another.

Angel Cabrera learned the game as a caddie at Cordoba, the home club of his friend and fellow professional Eduardo Romero. Romero, who lived two blocks away from his young protg,encouraged him to take up game at age 15 and young Angel progressed so smoothly that he turned professional at age 20. His two young sons are excellent golfers. Cabrera says he would be a soccer player if not a golfer. His nickname is El Pato (The Duck).

2009 PGA TOUR Highlights: Els made his eighth career start at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz ChampionAngel Cabrera parred the second playoff hole to beat Kenny Perry and win this years Masters tournament. Cabrera and Perry, the third-round co-leaders, finished tied at 12-under 276 along with Chad Campbell. On the first playoff hole, the par-4 18th, Cabrera made a par after driving in the right trees, and Perry got up and down for par from just off the green. Campbell was eliminated when he failed to get up and down from the right bunker. Perry missed the green to the left on the second playoff hole, the par-4 10th, and Cabrera hit the green in two, two-putting for the win -- his second in a major championship -- after Perry made bogey. Cabrera failed to crack the top 10 again until a tie for a fourth-place finish at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
