Giving A Hole-In-One

December 6, 2005

The Press-Enterprise

Golfers aren't hard to shop for. So many gadgets and gizmos swarm the market that even the most collectible-happy golfers can't have everything. However, the golfing giftee is going to find certain items more useful than others, and so some things take flight more frequently.

"Clothing is really big this year," said Jeff Smith, manager at Nevada Bob's Golf in Riverside, Calif. "The new Greg Norman Collection is made of different material, new microfiber. It's completely waterproof, although it's also for cold and wind so you can wear a shirt and a sweater and be comfortable, instead of having to wear five layers and not be able to swing."

Indeed, the Weatherknits and PlayDry golfwear have helped make the Greg Norman Collection a whopping success.

Allenby Seeks Aussie Sweep

December 5, 2005

Robert Allenby will go for an unprecedented season sweep of Australia's three major titles this week.

Allenby held off Mathew Goggin for a one-shot victory at the Australian PGA Championship, a week after overcoming a hand injury to win the Australian Open.

Lonard tied for eighth in the Masters last year after winning the Open and PGA. Three other players have won two titles in one season, including Greg Norman twice.

Turnberry To Host 2009 British Open

December 2, 2005

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- Turnberry will host the British Open for the fourth time in 2009. The 138th edition of the major will be played from July 16-19, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club said Thursday.

Turnberry, a links course on the west coast of Scotland, first hosted the British Open in 1977. Greg Norman captured his first major championship at Turnberry in 1986.

Next year's British Open will be played at Royal Liverpool, England. In 2007, it will be at Carnoustie, Scotland, and, in 2008, Royal Birkdale, England.
