Summer Reading: Classic Golf Instruction | July 19, 2005 |
Classic Golf Instruction is a compilation of the drawings of Anthony
Ravielli combined with instruction and commentary by the best players and
professionals in the game -- Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Raymond Floyd,
David Leadbetter, Hank Haney, Butch Harmon, Rick Smith and others.
The sketches cover grip, setup, swing and all aspects of the short game,
coupled with remarks by the game's greats. Ravielli's most famous image of
Ben Hogan with a pane of glass around his neck is also included in the
book.
Ravielli used a scratchboard to create his images, a rarely used medium
because of the skill required. He etched tens of thousands of cuts into an
ink-layered board to capture detail. Ravielli was a master at his art, and
all his drawings are anatomically and aesthetically perfect.
His illustrations highlight certain aspects of the swing that photographs
are unable to capture, simplifying many moves and intricacies. He perfectly
captured the swings of Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Tom Watson and Bobby
Jones, making the book a timeless collection of images.

Red Sky's Free Golf Lessons | July 19, 2005 |
A beautiful day and lush greens were the backdrop for Vail Academy's second
annual golf tournament at the Greg Norman course at Red Sky Ranch. Formally
known as Eagle Valley Christian Academy, the school is celebrating new
digs, which opened in February.
The day started with a bang as Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate and
Community Concepts popped Dom Perignon in celebration of Red Sky's newest
development, the Custom Collection. Jamie Allen, along with Ron, Matt and
Laurie Iverson, came in with first net, followed by their associates, Dave
and Jen Adkins, Eric Lyon and Scott Meichtry, who won first gross.
Not only did the winning teams with low scores receive awards, but the
teams with the highest scores also walked away with just what they needed -
free golf lessons. Colorado Business Bank, Red Sky Ranch Golf Club, Mitch
and Leanne Perry and Ron and Kathy Iverson were gold sponsors of the
tournament, which raised more than $25,000 for the Vail Academy students. |

after an operation and then this happens." |

Tales With The Claret Jug | July 17, 2005 |
After Greg Norman's first victory at Turnberry in 1986, the Great White
Shark and a group of friends ventured back down to the 18th green in the
middle of the night.
"We were drinking champagne out of the Claret Jug and two security guards
came along with dogs and were going to kick us off," said Norman.
"Eventually, they realized who we were and what we were doing and I invited
them to join us.
"So there we were, all having a drink on the 18th at about one o'clock in
the morning, and that's what it's all about." |
