Mahan Matches Norman's Record

Hunter Mahan tied a Canadian Open record with his first-round 62. Three others have shot 62s in the Canadian Open, all at Glen Abbey. Leonard Thompson set the mark in 1981 and Andy Bean matched it in 1983, both when Glen Abbey played to a par of 71. Greg Norman did it in 1986, when the par was 72.

Weir's Canadian Open Memory

Mike Weir says his favorite memory of the Canadian Open as a kid came at Glen Abbey. "I remember watching a clinic with Andy Bean and Tom Kite," Weir said. "I remember being in a semi-circle behind the guys and they were hitting different shots. Greg Norman came over and started rifling these 3-irons, and the cart guy was out there driving and picking up the balls... And I remember sitting as a kid sitting there watching him. He nailed him a couple of times, and I just thought that was pretty cool. When you're 8 years old, you think that's pretty cool."

Shaikh Holdings Launches Sanctuary Falls At JGE

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Shaikh Holdings, a Dubai-based real estate investment and development company launched Sanctuary Falls, its first residential golf development in the UAE. The USD$200 million project, located within Jumeirah Golf Estates, aims to create a new benchmark in community living by being the first resort-style residential golf community in the region.

The community will feature a collection of 96 resort-style villas overlooking the Earth golf course, designed by Greg Norman. Offering a selection of varied architectural styles and views, Sanctuary Falls' homes range from 5,600 sq.ft. to 10,600 sq.ft. The community is scheduled for completion by May 2009.

Troon To Manage Settlers Run

Golf Resort Project To Start By End Of Year

Works on a multi-million-dollar golf course development on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia is expected to start by the end of the year.

The Dunes golf resort at Port Hughes has been given final approval by the SA Government and was officially launched June 23 by its designer, golfing legend Greg Norman.

The first stage of the $250 million project will include the golf course as well as residential and tourist accommodation.

The developer of the project, Phil Hudson, says it is an exciting project that will have significant spin-off benefits for the region.

"This will have a very large impact on employment, during the first year we're expecting about 600 jobs to be created so it's a great opportunity for local people and young people in particular to get employment," he said.

"From here on there'll be plenty of jobs on Yorke Peninsula for young people which is just great and great for tourism."
