Norman Chases Elusive Title (By Dave Shedloski | PGATour.com) | June 28, 2004 |
Pondering the subplots for the Cialis Western Open while wondering if Greg Norman has one more run in him when he returns this week to Cog Hill Golf & Country Club.
The casual golf fan might think of the Masters as the most elusive title in
Norman's career. True, the Great White Shark three times was runner-up at
Augusta, and he had four other finishes in the top four without a win.
The Cialis Western Open has been more perplexing, however. In 10
appearances, he made nine cuts with no finish worse than 20th and seven
finishes in the top five. Norman five times finished second, including in
1991, '92 and '93. He's a combined 34-under-par at Cog Hill, and from '89
to '96 he ran off 18-straight rounds under par. |

In October 1999, Retief Goosen narrowly misses out on matching Greg
Norman's record of 11 successive individual wins at the Alfred Dunhill Cup

Wente Vineyards Pays Homage To U.S. Open | June 2, 2004 |
LIVERMORE, Calif. -- In honor of the 104th U.S. Open (June 17-20 at
Shinnecock), The Course at Wente Vineyards is creating custom tee boxes and
embroidered flags, crosscutting narrow fairways, growing thick rough and
shortening the greens for speed on Nos. 10-12 to give guests a taste of
championship play.
All golfers during the challenge days will be eligible to win the new Club
Wente Golf Membership, with top scorers for the three-holes also winning
certificates for free rounds of golf and other great prizes. The Wente
Championship Challenge runs concurrently with the U.S. Open at the Greg
Norman designed course in California's famed Livermore Valley.
"At the turn, each guest will be greeted with a complimentary sleeve of
golf balls," Director of Golf Chris Conway said. "We'll have volunteer
forecaddies walk with the groups to tally their scores, help them find
balls and even suggest the proper club to use for the shots to keep the
pace 'lively' through these holes. Sure the prizes are worth the challenge,
but winners will keep the bragging rights in their bags for years." |
