Norman Design Hosts Tour's Best | March 30, 2005 |
The Greg Norman designed Tournament Players Club at Sugarloaf in Duluth,
Ga., hosts the BellSouth Classic this week.
Zach Johnson returns to defend his title following an impressive run of
form through the Florida swing, which resulted in three top-eight finishes
and a perfect nine out of nine cuts made. In last year's event Johnson
finished on 13 under, one shot ahead of Mark Hensby.
Sugarloaf measures 7,292 yards and plays to a par of 72. The undulating
greens will provide a familiar feel to those currently under preparation at
Augusta National.
Past winners of the tournament in the field this week include Scott
McCarron (1997 and 2001), Phil Mickelson (2000), Retief Goosen (2002) and
Johnson. Total prize money this week is $5 million with $900 000 going to
the winner. |

In 1994, Greg Norman led the money list with $1.6 million. Nick Price was
30th with $611,700 and John Wilson got the 125th spot and exempt status for
1995 with $149,280.
Last year, Vijay Singh set a record with earnings of $10.9 million. Kenny
Perry got the 30th spot, which means exemption into the Tour Championship,
with $1.9 million and the 125th spot on the money list went to Tag Ridings
with $623,262.

Opera Carolina Invitational At The Point | March 21, 2005 |
The Third Annual Opera Carolina 2005 Invitational Golf Tournament will be
held on Monday, April 25 at the Point Lake and Golf Club, situated on the
shores of Lake Norman at 120 Meeting House Square in Mooresville.
Past tournaments have raised over $85,000 to help support the growth of the
largest and most successful opera company in the Southeast.
The Point's golf course, designed by Greg Norman, has been described as
inspiring. More than two-thirds of the holes play directly along or over
the water on the beautiful, varied course, which presents challenges to
golfers of all skill levels. |
