In 1977, an unknown 22 year old from Australia won his first European Tour event, The Martini International, in Perthshire, Scotland -- Venue for the Martini event was the Rosemount course at Blairgowrie Golf Club. The unknown player was a gangling Greg Norman. No doubt Norman still has fond memories of Blairgowrie Rosemount, as do most who have had the pleasure of playing here.

Wente Vineyards Natiowide Tour's Toughest Course

Wente Vineyards, the scenic Greg Norman design tucked into the hills south of Livermore, was the Nationwide Tour's toughest course for the second consecutive year. Even without the rains of 2006, the Wine Country Championship last spring produced a stroke average of 75.235, the highest on the Nationwide since the 75.421 at the 2002 Monterey Peninsula Classic at Bayonet. Fast greens, penal rough and weekend wind hiked the scores in the event won by veteran Omar Uresti.

Greg Norman Collection Inks Licensing Agreement With BTB

New Delhi, India) - Greg Norman Collection, a subsidiary of MacGregor Golf Company, has entered Indian retail market through a licensing and distribution agreement with Gurgaon-based franchiser - Better Than Before (BTB).

The brand recently made its debut in the Indian retail market through opening of an exclusive brand store in Gurgaon.

Greg Norman Collection is a leader in golf-inspired apparel and accessories targeting active, sophisticated men and women. The brand sells from over 21 countries around the world.

The company plans to set up ten exclusive Greg Norman Collection outlets by July next year and take the number to 50 in the next five years.

"Sportswear market is growing at a pace of 20-25 per cent, more so lifestyle sportswear industry is growing significantly in India making it a key market for sports lifestyle brand like Greg Norman Collection," said Rahul Singh, CEO of BTB.

"The brand aims to cater to the needs of brand and fashion conscious men and women with active lifestyle. With the growing popularity of Golf in India and the image associated with it, we expect a promising growth for the brand in the country", Rahul added.

BTB is also mulling over introducing MacGregor golf equipment in Indian market in the next phase through golf course pro-shops and sport specialty stores.

Settlers Run Golf and Country Club Opens

Casey mayor Colin Butler officially opened Settlers Run Golf and Country Club in Cranbourne yesterday (Wednesday).

The opening of the Medallist $300 million development, a joint venture between Greg Norman's Great White Shark Enterprises and Macquarie Bank, was attended by new residents and locals keen to explore the facility.

Cr Butler said he had seen the development grow from a concept on paper and was still amazed by the outcome.

"I knew the golf course was going to be good, but the design of the country club and landscaping is just fantastic," he said.

"It will be a tremendous facility for Cranbourne and the City of Casey. I feel privileged to be able to open such a wonderful development."

Settlers Run comprises 500 houses surrounding an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course and the Settlers Run Golf and Country Club.
