The win of Greg Norman in yesterday's $500,000 Kemper Open golf tournament in Maryland, lifted him to the top of the American tour money list.
It was his second victory of the year and was worth $90,000 to Norman. His earnings for the year stand at $447,109.
The Great White Shark defeated Larry Mize on the sixth extra hole.
Norman shot a superb six-under-par 66 in regulation play for a total of 11-under 277.
Mize held the lead at 12-under-par, after birdies at the 15th and 16th holes, but he bunkered his approach shot at the 18th and had a bogey to drop into the tie with a 69.
They each parred the first five holes in their sudden death playoff but Mize met disaster on the sixth hole. With Norman in position on the green, Mize hit a flyer out of the rough that bounced from the back edge of the green into the water.
He took a drop, but proceeded to pitch his next shot back over the green and into the water on the other side. Norman made his par and gained the victory.
