The young Aussie held the lead at the halfway point on 141 by posting 74 and 67 in the first and second rounds respectively. His nearest challengers were Australian Ian Stanley and Spaniard Seve Ballesteros on 143.
A disappointing third round by Norman forced him to relinquish the top spot to Stanley and Ballesteros with Jack Newton hot on their heels. No about to roll over, Norman came out in fine form for the final round. He put on an explosive demonstration and finished with a 66 to demolish the field by four strokes.
Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne turned on the fine weather this week for the fifth Australian Masters. The Masters is Norman's first victory of the season. He had a solid performance on the European Tour a year ago winning the British Masters, English Classic and the Benson and Hedges International.
